PLANTZONE7A is
the plant hardiness zone that Martha's Vineyard is located in. Though the island's varied microclimates present themselves as a challenge, we are committed to this sensitive coastal area, and represent it by growing plants that are acclimated to this zone and therefore thrive in their environment.
We have a simple philosophy and recognize the benefits to low maintenance landscaping; We store plants for the winter season for protection. We protect plants from deer. We grow our own food. We use native, local plants for our landscape company, Crosswater Landscape, and we like to grow them ourselves when we can.
Our 5 greenhouses are multi-use, multi-purposed, and are seasonally directed.
Both locations are appointment only.
Our wide range of on and off-island nursery connections, as well as our own greenhouses, allows us, and you, guarantee choice selection and availability of certain and specific plant material that may be difficult to find elsewhere, or preferred from just up the road.
At Crosswater Landscape, we make great use of native, local plants like American Holly, Viburnum dentatum, Shad, Blueberry, and Beach plum, and so we always have them, full-potential/aclimated in stock. We also propagate many varieties of ornamental grasses and perennials annually.
We pride ourselves on our organic year round vegetable growing. Right now we have 35 mature fig trees, up to 15 feet tall, kiwis, many varieties of asian pears, lemon and lime trees, kumquats, grapefruits, tangerines.
We have been harvesting winter/cold root veggies such as kale, chard, mustard greens, brussel sprouts, and potatoes. We were lucky enough to keep them around through the severe cold weather.
